The Best Tips and Tricks from a Social Worker in Preparing a Case for Trial, Sentencing and Beyond

    Location

Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Ave., 13th Floor Auditorium, Detroit, Michigan

SADO’s Social Worker/Attorney team will provide detailed information for attorneys useful even if, or particularly when, there is no ability to employ a social worker. In addition to identifying critical forms and information that attorneys might need to acquire, tips and techniques for gathering mitigation evidence will be covered for use with defense at trial and with an emphasis on mitigation at sentencing. Defense Attorneys will also learn from a social worker about how to enhance client-centered representation by identifying the issues that bring your client into the criminal justice system and by helping develop support and resources to meet those needs. All of this will improve attorney-client relationships and may improve your client’s sentencing outcomes and help you in preparing a post-conviction mitigation plan (developing an impactful allocution, documenting resources and presenting your plan).

    Cell Phone Science

    Location

Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Ave., 13th Floor Auditorium, Detroit, Michigan

The first cell phones were sold by Motorola in 1973. In 1979, Japan launched the first commercial cellular network and in 2007, Apple released the iPhone which created a revolution of smart mobile devices. Over the years, mobile device usage has increased and this trend does not appear to be changing any time soon. Today, almost 70% of all criminal investigations involve mobile device forensics. Join us for discussion on cell phone science:

    • The history of cell phones.
    • How cellular data is propagated.
    • How cell phone data is acquired and preserved.
    • What kind of data can be recovered from cell devices.
    • What should be included in litigation hold letters.
    • Sample subpoena language.

SRR’s experts will provide an update on cell phone forensics and what every criminal attorney needs to know about their client’s potential records to be produced.
