MIDC Requirements
- Please consult MIDC Standard 1 for more information about training
- All attorneys must complete 12 hours of MIDC approved training every calendar year (Completed January – December)
- Attorneys with two years or fewer of experience as a criminal defense attorney in Michigan must complete at least 16 hours of skills training.
- This training must be hands-on, interactive, training.
- These skills hours count towards the 12 hours required by MIDC.
- Acceptable training providers include, but are not limited to, training put on by Wayne County, SADO, CDAM, NACDL, and NAPD as long as related to criminal defense practice.

Assigned Counsel Application Requirements
- Complete 12 hours of MIDC approved training within the calendar year (Completed January 1 – December 31) in any of the following topics:
- Training in the Michigan Rules of Evidence
- Trial skills
- Pretrial motions practice
- Sentencing
- Technology in the courtroom
- Client relationships
- Legal Updates
- Other Acts
- DNA
- Daubert
- To accept Tier One cases (homicide), your 12 hours must include one course specific to trying homicide cases.
- To accept Tier Two cases (CSC/Child Abuse), your 12 hours must include a course in one of the following topics:
- A course in examination and jury selection techniques unique to CSC/Child Abuse cases
- A course on other acts and propensity evidence
- A course on DNA and Daubert issues.
- All other MIDC or county required training. (E.g., the 36 District Court/ACLU Bail Agreement Training)
- You must report training by 12/31 at the latest
