    Avoiding Hearsay Objections and Using the Rules of Evidence to Impeach and Rehabilitate Assigned Counsel Services Presentation

    Chair of the Wayne County Criminal Advocacy Program Judge Michael Hathaway, will give opening remarks regarding new CAP certification requirements and introduce new Assigned Counsel Services Manager Yvonne Barnett-Greene who will give a brief presentation.

    Third Circuit Court Judge Daniel Ryan, an expert in the nuances of the Rules of Evidence, will simplify the complexities of the hearsay rule and explain practical and effective methods of impeaching and rehabilitating witnesses. With the many changes in the court and the rapid evolution of the law, this is a seminar everyone should attend! Moderated by William Winters III.

    A round table lecture featuring Nancy Neff head of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Felony Non-Support Unit, defense attorney Brian Selburn, Assistant Attorney General Felicia Courtright, Shelley Drain Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, PPO violations, and a staff member from the Friend of the Court. This is a mandatory lecture for ALL attorneys who want to receive assignments or to remain on the list of eligible attorneys for Felony Non Support cases, handle the Show Cause docket or the PPO docket.

    State Defender Training Attorney Kimberly Basen Michon and Deputy Defender Kristin Pell will address the difficulties in challenging search warrants. Learn what to look for and how to challenge the sufficiency of the warrant. Moderated by Donald Johnson, Deputy Chief Legal Aid and Defender.

    What do you mean Polygraphs are admissible?

    This program will give you a basic introduction to Polygraph examinations. We will cover the basic science of the examination, limitations, explanation of the various results, and the various uses of the examination including the situations where they are admissible.

    Presenting is H. John Wojnaroski III. He has been a forensic polygraph examiner since 1979 and is a retired Lieutenant of the Michigan State Police. During his 25-year career with the Michigan State Police, he served 20 years as a forensic polygraph examiner. He is past President of the Michigan Association of Polygraph Examiners and is a member of the Investigation Division for the Michigan Innocence Project.
